UVA South Chiller Plant Expansion, Phase I & II

The South Chiller Plant Project is located behind the hospital, and is a two-story plant designed for an ultimate chilling capacity of 6,000 tons produced by electric centrifugal chillers. The plant is configured with the chillers on level one, pumps and other supporting equipment on level two, and the cooling towers on the roof. This was a phased project, and transition between the old chilling system to the new was critical to the University facilities it serves. This project received an award for Mid-Atlantic Construction’s Best of 2008.
