UVA Malcolm W. Cole Child Care Center
The Malcolm Cole Child Care Center was a Design-build/lease project with the University. Martin Horn and dBF Architects designed and built this two-story, 15,200 SF building, and then leased it to the University. Shortly after the building was finished, the University opted to purchase it.
The Child Care Center is situated on a challenging site with the railroad tracks directly behind it, and the site had severe slopes and grades. Martin Horn was very concerned with providing a safe drop-off for children while allowing enough parking and safe play areas. Security needed to be maintained at all times, yet the space needed to be inviting for families and children.
