“[My favorite part of working in construction is] working with my hands and being able to drive by a finished project and say ‘I built that’.”

What is your favorite part about working in construction?

Working with my hands and being able to drive by a finished project and say “I built that.”

Are there any obstacles you’ve had to overcome as a woman in construction?

Being small. It’s hard to get people to take me seriously.

Why do you think there are so few women in construction?

Men and their dirty minds. Why would you come to work to be harassed? You just have to learn to let things go.

Is there anything you think could change to make construction a more inclusive industry?

Once schools reopen, taking one building or trade class should be a graduation requirement.

What do you hope to see in the future for women in construction?

To be treated as equals and to have better shared onsite facilities, like porta johns.
