“Don’t be afraid to ask questions and present yourself in a way that commands respect.”

How did you end up in construction?

I started working [construction] with my dad when I was a teenager.

What was your experience like when you first started as a woman in construction?

It was frustrating. Men often treated me like their secretary.

Has it changed since then? How?

It has. Women have slowly been integrated into construction. It’s not unusual to see a woman on a construction site anymore. I hope to see the number of women on the job site increase in the coming years.

What career advice do you have for younger women interested in construction?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions and present yourself in a way that commands respect.

Why do you think women should work in construction?

I’ve found that women have a special ability to multi-task and also consider the details. That’s huge in construction.
