Region Ten – Preston Avenue

In 1968, 800 Preston Avenue was built to be a bank processing center. In the 1980’s it became a drive up bank and offices. Region 10 bought the building and added a new floor, rechristening it as the James R. Peterson Building. As with many buildings that have had multiple purposes and owners, the building became outdated both programmatically with floor layout and systematically with several unconnected HVAC systems requiring constant maintenance. In 2013, Region 10 and Bob Pineo issued a RFP and selected Martin Horn to do a complete overhaul of the building. Demolition and abatement started right away while the contractor and owners began a series of meetings to finalize design. The HVAC system was redesigned using Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) to supply a building wide heating and cooling solution. The new building is home to the executive office of Region 10, as well as some lab space for Martha Jefferson Hospital. The computer room floor in the basement was removed and flex meeting space installed. The Vault for the bank was replaced and now is secure storage for lab and pharmaceuticals.
