$5 Million Renovation will Temporarily Close Downtown Mall 2nd Street Crossing

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (January 13, 2015) Charlottesville general contractor Martin Horn Inc., will begin work this week on a $5 million renovation of the former downtown Regal Cinema property. The project, under development by Violet Crown Cinema, will offer 10 stadium-style auditoriums with state-of-the-art projectors and sound systems, and a full bar and restaurant.

For the safety and convenience of Downtown Mall pedestrians, the City of Charlottesville and Martin Horn will close 2nd Street Southwest and the Downtown Mall crossing beginning Thursday, January 15. The sidewalk along Second Street will remain open at all times. The street will re-open once the demolition and heavy phases of construction are complete.
“We have 150 loads of debris to remove, 70 tons of steel to install as well as dozens of truckloads of concrete and other materials to deliver,” said Jack Horn, Martin Horn CEO. “We are going to bring everything in and out of Water Street to minimize disruption and maximize safety on the Downtown Mall.“
Martin Horn’s experience successfully and safely managing large projects directly affecting traffic and businesses on the Downtown Mall has been extensive including renovations to York Place, The Jefferson Theater, and the construction of the nTelos Wireless Pavilion.
