The Wedge is a large apartment building crammed onto a postage-stamp-size piece of property. It is one of a dozen projects Martin Horn has completed for Charlottesville developer Jim Stultz. The schedule was ambitious. But the building's design called for a unique system of wood and block integration, which made it difficult to speed up construction or work out of sequence. So Martin Horn erected a two-story plastic tent to continue block-laying and grouting during freezing weather. The project was completed on time. Martin Horn even gave the owner additional, revenue-generating parking spaces.
