Peabody School started as a basic design-build
addition. But after construction began, a donor
offered funds to upgrade the project to meet Leadership
in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) building
standards. Martin Horn's LEED-Certified Project
Manager worked closely with the school as the
addition was repeatedly redesigned, first to become
"green" and then to stay within budget.
Despite numerous changes and $500,000 worth of
additional work, the schedule was extended by
only a month. Equally important, thanks to Martin
Horn's expertise and flexibility, the school stayed
within its budget. The Peabody School addition
is the first LEED-NC certified commercial project
in the Charlottesville area.
