UVA Carruthers Data Center

The data center at Carruthers Hall is a vital component in the IT infrastructure of the University of Virginia. In order to keep up with growing demand, the University contracted Martin Horn to replace the computer room air conditioners (CRAC Units) along with all the power distribution and raisied access flooring. The power system has all new Automatic Transfer Switch gear, battery backups and generators to ensure maximum uptime. The specially designed units needed to be brought in through the roof using a 50 ton crane. To maintain the most efficient cooling, the CRAC units use a ceiling plenum return to draw the air upwards.
